What is a Durag used for?

The Durag is often considered a simple fashion accessory made of silk or satin worn around the head. But this “fashion accessory” can be very useful for your hair and hairstyles . Do you know all the benefits that the durag has? Here are a few :
- Maintaining the “waves”
- Protection of hairstyles such as braids during sleep, sports or when wearing a helmet.
- Protects the scalp from sun exposure that can cause damage to it.
- Helps improve hair texture by preventing oils or creams used from evaporating or drying out too quickly.
- Helps keep slicked hair or wigs straight and in good shape
Like any fabric or fashion accessory, the Durag requires certain care in order to stay clean, not to deteriorate and to remain effective. Here are some tips for properly maintaining your Durag:
- Do not share your durags with other people
- Avoid dirt and bacteria that can affect your scalp
- Have an extra durag for when your hair isn't clean
- Hand wash your durag with mild soap and avoid machine washing
- After washing, rinse it and gently wring out the excess water.
- Avoid putting it in the dryer. Opt more for natural drying by extending it in the sun or for drying with a hair dryer
